The beginning of nothing

It's appropriate that this blog should begin as something done in place of something else that ought to have been done. That is, from the outset it becomes intertwined with the concept of procrastination, and not only in name.

I'm lounging around in Hania, Crete under the pretext of completing a Teaching English as a Foregin Language (TEFL) certification. At this time of year the weather has changed 3 times throughout the space of today. I ought to be writing an assignment. However, the washing machine cycle here takes 3 hours. Hence the pretext for procrastination.

The decision to begin a blog did not come easily. In some ways I feel that I'm soiling my conscience by littering cyberspace with another piece of unnecessary detritus - as I have generally little to say that's of value. Still, some people (my parents) are interested in what I do at regular intervals and I've come to believe that a blog is ethically superior to spam mail.
